Sleep disorders: Waking in dreams

 

Quiet often we hear our parents, friends and colleges snore at night while they are sleeping but little did we realized that they are suffering from a sleep disorder, or have we? There are innumerable types of sleep disorders while some might complain of falling asleep while others have no sleep at all. Well this is not new to us, as generally we are well acquainted with the fact that the lightening progress in technology and science has brought tremendous glory and advancement to human lives but like two sides of the coin owing to this progress we have lost our dear sleep in the midst of fast-moving traffic. In fact people these days have no time to eat and no time to sleep every one of us are dead busy to make more money and reach new heights.

 

Frankly we don’t care weather we sleep or not but owing to this indifferent attitude our body soon starts to give warning signals of sleep disorders such as nightmares wet dreams sleepwalking wetting of beds and in severe cases Sexsomnia where an individual have sex without even knowing about it completely.

 

Sleep disorder is defined by oxford dictionary as a disturbance in the sleeping pattern while national institute of health, it is classified like this

 

·                     Problems with falling and staying asleep

·                     Problems with staying awake

·                     Problems with adhering to a regular sleep schedule

·                     Sleep-disruptive behaviors

 

Whatever the cause and kind be, of a sleep disorder, the basic remedy remains same a good balanced sleep which does wonders in such abnormalities.

 

Sleep disorders can be due to excessive stress anxiety consumption of alcohol or drugs constant intake of caffeine and nicotine, too much noise, too much light and excessive wakefulness in the night.

 

The prime symptoms depicted during sleep disorder are complains of migraine, depression, drowsiness and dullness in the  working hours of the day, snoring while sleeping, respiratory problems, weak sleep in the night mental collapse, irritation with poor concentration.

 

Insomnia is the most prevalent and known sleep disorder in general public, it is characterized by loss and inability of sleep persistent from 2 to 4 weeks, another specimen is sleep apnea which is marked by breathing interruptions during sleep owing to which an individual snores or wakes up in regular smaller sessions of his sleep. Narcolepsy is another such sleep disorder where an individual tends to sleep during the daytime. Sometimes due to our erratic working hours our body gets self hypnotized and tends to sleep at that particular interval only say from 5 am to 9 am and the human clock alarms the body to take its due rest at that particular time period only.

 

Sleep disorders of various kinds should not be taken lightly and it is best advised to consult a doctor if the above symptoms are frequent in an individual. However medicines like compose dionil and mentax are generally prescribed by the physicians to cure acute insomnia, requisite dose should be strictly taken as per your doctor’s advice  sleep disorder like sleep apnea need surgery but in milder form can be cured by nasal drops and medicines while Narcolepsy requires stimulants and Night terrors are treated with hypnosis, guided imagery techniques and benzodiazepines.

 

Sleep disorders are increasing occurring frequently in the world the root cause is physical and emotion stress due to our hectic lifestyles which tend to give us bad sleeping and eating habits which may further invite other metabolic and chronological disorders. However proper routine, balanced diet and a sound sleep will work wonders .We should always remember “Health is Wealth” and not “Wealth is Health”.
